I would like to do spotlight in science to emphasize my role in determining the cause of cardiac death when a young person dies suddenly which is such a traumatic tragic event for a family. The cause may lie in faulty genes within a family and the family will need screening often done here at St Georges Hospital by our cardiologists with genetic testing also included in the investigations. Knowledge of the causes has expanded greatly in the last decade. I also wish to emphasize the Role of UK Charity Cardiac Risk In the Young (CRY) in funding research in this area and family screening. I wish to focus on the importance of pathologists in determining the cause of death and the National Pilot Project being undertaken with the British Heart Foundation and Genetics England undertaking genetic testing in all cases.
