Marion McNabb, DrPH, MPH is the President of Cannabis Center of Excellence, INC (CCOE) a Massachusetts-based 501c3 nonprofit organization that conducts citizen-science-focused population studies and programs in the areas of community engagement, medical cannabis, adult-use cannabis, and social justice in the cannabis industry. The CCOE serves as a virtual resource & network of cannabis industry professionals, academics, policymakers, healthcare providers, consumers, and patients who aim to break the stigma and advance social justice in the cannabis industry. www.cannacenterofexcellence.org. Dr. McNabb is the Principal Investigator of six Cannabis research studies examining the reasons and impact of cannabis use among adult-use consumers and medical patients in Massachusetts and the United States, together with UMass Dartmouth. Dr. McNabb is the Cannabis Retail Appointee to the Massachusetts Cannabis Advisory Board until October 2023, and was appointed by the Treasurer of Massachusetts. Dr. McNabb sits on several academic advisory boards for academic cannabis educational and workforce training programs; Dr. McNabb has collaborated on Cannabis Research studies with academic partners UMass Dartmouth and Rider University in New Jersey and educational programs with Boston University, Excelsior University, Holyoke Community College, and others. She is currently the Principal Investigator of the Healthcare Providers Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Study, run together with UMass Dartmouth and Medicinal Genomics. The CCOE is co-hosting the first annual cannabis science fair with Boston University BUild Lab and MCR Labs on Dec 11, 2021.
Dr. McNabb is also the former CEO and Co-Founder of the Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN), a Massachusetts-based cannabis research company from 2018 – 2020 that aimed to improve the research evidence base related to adult-use cannabis and medical cannabis therapies. C3RN, with UMass Dartmouth, in 2018-2019 led a two-year open cannabis consumer and patient research study to assess the impact on health, social, and economic outcomes. C3RN also in 2019 led a Veterans Health and Medical Cannabis Research Study with UMass Dartmouth, and partners. From 2019 - 2020, C3RN was an approved qualified training vendor for the first-in-the-national first cohort of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission’s social equity training program. C3RN helped to establish the Holyoke Community College Cannabis Education Center that provides workforce training programs and C3RN was the winner of the first annual 2018 Boston University School of Business Ancillary Cannabis Startup Competition to create a virtual Cannabis Center of Excellence. Dr. McNabb also has over 15 years of global public health experience working in the areas of digital health, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, and family planning, working primarily in Africa and Haiti. Dr. McNabb holds a DrPH from Boston University School of Public Health and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Prof. Steven Suter completed his MS in biochemistry at The New York Medical College in 1991, after he gained entrance to The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his veterinary degree in 1995 and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2001. He then completed a medical oncology residency at the University of California Davis in 2004. He joined the Medical Oncology Service at North Carolina State University in 2005 and have been a full professor since 2018. He is the Director of the Canine/Feline Oncology Diagnostic Laboratory and the Medical Director of the Canine Bone Marrow Transplant & Apheresis Unit, which he founded in 2007 and 2008, respectively. He is one of four Medical Oncology faculty members who oversee a very busy Medical Oncology Service that teaches 4th-year veterinary students and house officers how to rationally approach the diagnosis and treatment of companion animals with a wide variety of malignancies.

Andrew Knight is Professor of Animal Welfare and Ethics, and Founding Director of the University of Winchester Centre for Animal Welfare, Adjunct Professor in the School of Environment and Science at Griffith University, Queensland, EBVS European and RCVS Veterinary Specialist in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, American and New Zealand Veterinary Specialist in Animal Welfare, Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and Principal Fellow of Advance HE. He has around 150 academic and 80 popular publications, and an extensive series of YouTube videos, on plant-based companion animal diets, climate change and the livestock sector, invasive animal research, educational animal use, humane clinical and surgical skills training, and other animal welfare issues. He regularly works with animal welfare charities to advocate for animals, and is frequently interviewed by the media. He has received over 20 awards and research grants for this work.

Dr. J. Marcos Fernandez serves as Professor of Animal Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA) and is charged with developing, supporting, and advancing “Student Outreach & Development” initiatives in the department and college. Marcos rejoined the faculty ranks in early 2020 following 19 years of college-level leadership and administrative appointments at three major American Land-Grant Universities – Purdue University, Pennsylvania State University, and Louisiana State University (LSU). Prior to administration, he served in the Animal Sciences faculty at LSU and Langston University (in Oklahoma, USA) contributing in all three missions (research, teaching and outreach) at the institutions. Marcos has served as the National Chair of the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities’ Academic Programs Section (2018-19) and just recently (2020-21) completed his year as President of NACTA (North American Colleges & Teachers of Agriculture). He has been a collaborator and co-author in the last three five-Year editions of the often cited “USDA Employment Opportunities for College Graduates in Food, Agriculture, Renewable Natural Resources & the Environment, United States” Reports (2010-15, 2015-20, and 2020-25), and is actively engaged in local, regional, and national student and workforce development initiatives across the agricultural disciplines, including the animal and veterinary sciences. Marcos received his degrees from North Carolina State University (Ph.D.), University of Tennessee (M.S.), and Illinois State University (BS), all in Animal Sciences.

Despite veterinary medicine being extremely scientific, he believes it should extend further than merely treating animals. Amity Vets celebrates pet guardianship and aims to assists her team and customers to become the best versions of themselves.
Dr Lennon is a practising vet for more than 15 years. He has an advanced certificate in Small Animal Medicine and loves surgery. He is especially interested in acupuncture, keyhole surgery and exotic pets.
His passion lies in Embracing Humanity through Veterinary Medicine. He is dedicated in reducing depression and attrition of the veterinary profession while improving profitability. He is also a well-established public speaker and runs a YouTube channel (Dr Lennon Foo at Amity), providing tips for you to understand more about your pets and the veterinary profession.
His book ‘Is my Vet for Real? – How to build the best relationship and get the most out of your vet so your pet wins! Finally, the secrets revealed’ has helped numerous pet guardians to overcome their fear and become their pet’s hero.

Daniel Berckmans has a master’s and a PhD in Bioengineering. Headed as Full Professor for 20 years the research Division M3-BIORES (Measure, Model and Manage Bio-responses), Department of Biosystems at the Catholic University of Leuven (⁰1425, 62.000 students) and is Adjunct Distinguished Professor at the University of Tennessee USA. Daniel is also the CTO of BioRICS NV that is focusing on continuous monitoring of human and animal mental and physical health. In education he was teaching 8 different courses at bachelors’ and master’s level. His research focus is on real time monitoring of health and wellbeing of individual humans and animals. He co-authored over 340 peer reviewed publications, over 450 papers, participated in 64 PhD commissions in 9 countries and promoted over 250 Master theses. Since 1982, 19 products for the world market were co-developed with industrial partners. He is co-inventor of 20 patents and coordinated several EU-projects. Daniel is worldwide considered as the spiritual father of the field of Precision Livestock Farming (PLF): real time monitoring of animals with technology: microphones, cameras, and sensors. He co-started the European Committee for Precision Livestock Farming that organizes since 2003 the 2-yearly European Conference for Precision Livestock Farming ‘ECPLF’. Today the conference is organized in agreement with the “Asian Conference for PLF” (ACPLF) and the “US Conference for PLF” (USCPLF). He co-initiated the first European Master’s in Human Health Engineering at the KU Leuven: technology for monitoring healthy people. Daniel is co-founder of 3 spin-off companies: BioRICS NV in 2006, BioRICS INC in San Francisco in 2016 and SoundTalks in 2011. He is a member of the recently started Scientific Council of the World Farmers Organization, who represent a billion farmers worldwide. KU Leuven was ranked by Reuters the seventh most innovative university worldwide in 2020 with 130 spin-off companies so far. Sarah studied at Murdoch University WA, qualifying as a vet in 1993. She moved to the UK in 1994 and settled in Devon having worked as a locum and in permanent positions in both companion animal and mixed practice. Interested in the softer side of practice management she graduated with an MBA (Open) in 2004. She became a Clinical Director in 2014. Her passion for managing change, the role of communication and stress in managing Human Factors led her to train as a Transformational Life Coach, NLP Practitioner and Hypnotherapist and to become an entrepreneur, launching Educe Today in 2020. Sarah continues to locum in her holidays.

Dr. Cherice Roth is a graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Along with her Doctorate she also holds a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry. She is currently the Chief Veterinary Officer of Fuzzy Pet Health as well as Special Programs coordinator of the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Roth is also an author of children’s books that focus on veterinary medicine, diversity and representation. She believes that veterinary virtual care is the answer for health disparities in pets as well as part of the answer to psychological health issues of veterinary professionals. Outside of work, you can find her in the woods of Oregon with her many, many “Roth Ranch” animals, her sons (The Rothlings), and husband, or serving on the medical board for several boxer, Doberman and dachshund charitable organizations.

Carolina Valenzuela is a Veterinarian and Doctor en Nutrición y Alimentos from the Universidad de Chile. Her research has been mainly in iron nutrition and encapsulation. Current projects, funded by the Chilean Science and Technology Commission include iron encapsulation for animal nutrition andinsects as food and feed. She has several scientific articles published in WoS International journals and has participated in National and International Congresses on the subject.

Biography

Dr Amr Azeem graduated veterinary school in Egypt in 2013, and shortly after started an equine internship in Fox Run Equine Center, in Pennsylvania USA. He then passed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examinations and board exams, and joined the Myhre Equine Clinic veterinary staff for several years in New Hampshire, USA. He then returned back home to Egypt where he established Albaydaa Equine Clinic as a surgical referral center in Giza, Egypt.
