He has worked many years on NanoScale materials, advanced materials manufacturing and applications, and more years in Metallurgy and Aluminium Manufacturing. I have achieved Electrolytic syntheses, characterizations, and applications of novel graphene/nano-Carbons, resulting in Superior Electrical, Electronic, Thermal and Dielectric characteristics; also resulting in the Highest Capacities when applied to Lead Acid and Lithium-ion Batteries, resulting from higher Utilization of Electrode Materials, 1st to demonstrate electrode precipitation and dissolution mechanisms in the gel-crystal electroactive zone of the lead-acid battery; synthesized graphene also resulted in higher viscoelastic mechanical behaviour in graphene-enhanced epoxy nanocomposites prepared by in-situ reduction of GO by solvent evaporation and hot stirring. Synthesized highly scalable and diversely applicable crystalline pristine graphene directly from graphite, with high basal planarity using solid-state processes, or alternative colloidal sonication process. This has resulted in the high-performance graphene anode for lithium-ion battery. She had her undergraduate Practice Opportunity Program in the Neurology Laboratory at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology (2017). Then, she gained a passion for the hospital environment. She started work as an intern by sharing solutions for patients/caregivers of any disease they developed through writing reports about medical devices, treatments, and strategies at Patient Innovation (2017-2018). She was also invited to participate in the Opening up to an ERA of Social Innovation Conference - #SocialinnovEU at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2017). Afterwards, Eng. Maria obtained her MSc in Biomedical Engineering also from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (2019). During her master’s she developed an algorithm for comparing astigmatic prediction errors associated with new calculation methods for intraocular lenses at Hospital da Luz (2018). She developed her master's thesis at Champalimaud Foundation where she used inertial sensors based on fullbody 3D kinematics in the differential diagnosis between Parkinson’s Disease and mimics (2019). From all these experiences she learned to enjoy dealing with patients and developed her programming skills in data analysis. However, she felt somehow that programming was not for her. Then, she changed her mindset and focused on the other interests which conducted her to a gap year as an Au Pair, in London. Meanwhile, she kept her interest in science and the human body field. She did several e-learning courses, namely ICH Good Clinical Practice, Tetanus, Herpes Simplex Virus Encephalitis with The Global Health Network (2019), Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider with ERC European Resuscitation Council until 2022, Medicine Management and Policies, Safeguarding Level 1, Moving Handling Principles, General Data Protection Regulation, Care Module and Operational First Aider alongside with St. John Ambulance (2020). Currently, Eng. Maria works for the food industry and beverages as a quality manager and logistics assistant where she can think about people's safety and develop new skills within the integrated value chain (raw materials > technology > B2B products > B2C applications > customers > consumers). She keeps acquiring knew knowledge with e-learning but now focuses on Sustainability Management Systems (2022).
