David Zhang graduated in Computer Science from Peking University. He received his MSc in 1982 and his PhD in 1985 in both Computer Science from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), respectively. From 1986 to 1988 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tsinghua University and then an Associate Professor at the Academia Sinica, Beijing. In 1994 he received his second PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He has been a Chair Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where he is the Founding Director of Biometrics Research Centre (UGC/CRC) supported by the Hong Kong SAR Government since 2005. Currently, he is Presidential Chair Professor in Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). He also serves as Visiting Chair Professor in Tsinghua University and HIT, and Adjunct Professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Peking University, National University of Defense Technology and the University of Waterloo. He is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Image and Graphics (IJIG); Book Editor, Springer International Series on Biometrics (KISB); Organizer, the first International Conference on Biometrics Authentication (ICBA); Associate Editor of more than ten international journals including IEEE Transactions and so on. Over past 30 years, he have been working on pattern recognition, image processing and biometrics, where many research results have been awarded and some created directions, including palmprint recognition, computerized TCM and facial beauty analysis, are famous in the world. So far, he has published over 20 monographs, 400 international journal papers and 40 patents from USA/Japan/HK/China. He has been continuously listed as a Highly Cited Researchers in Engineering by Clarivate Analytics (formerly known as Thomson Reuters) in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively (http://highlycited.com). He is also ranked 80 with H-Index 115 at Top 1000 Scientists for international Computer Science and Electronics (http://www.guide2research.com/scientists). Professor Zhang is a Croucher Senior Research Fellow, Distinguished Speaker of the IEEE Computer Society, and an IEEE Life Fellow and IAPR Fellow.
Dr. Ng is a professor at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received his PhD on Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME), FIET (UK), FIETI (HK). He is Editor-in-Chief for 2 ISI-journals which were captured by the JCR within 2-years of their inauguration. Dr. Ng has authored more than 400 publications in various journals and 14 books. His publications reflect his research interests in the field of infrared physics & technology in BME research. He has been recognized internationally for academic excellence. He was awarded the SPRING-Singapore Merit Award for his work in thermal imagers to screen SARS fever as well as contributions to the Singapore Standardization Program.
Dr. Temple Smith obtained his PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Colorado in 1969, followed byan NIH (USA) postdoctoral fellowship under the direction of the mathematician, Stanislaw Ulam, and the molecular biologist, John R. Sadler. Dr. Smith is one of the founders of GenBank, initially at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the co-developer, with Michael Waterman, of the Smith-Waterman sequence alignment algorithm. Beginning in 1988, Dr. Smith organized the “Genes and Machines” conference series in bioinformatics. As director of the Boston University BioMolecular Engineering Research Center, he directed the research of over twenty Post doctoral and graduate students. That research focused on protein evolution of: the WD-repeat family; the Life Guard apoptotic regulatory family; the evolutionary of the Drosophila clade, and the origin and evolutionary of the genetic translation system. He is a follow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and a fellow of the ISCB. He has 200 plus reviewed scientific publications. In 2011 Dr. Smith was elected Emeritus Professor of BioMedical Engineering at Boston University. Dr. Smith is an avid skier, ice climber, sailor, hockey coach and family man. He is also the co-founder of a gene engineering company, Modular Genetics.
Elena Tolkacheva obtained MS in Theoretical Physics from Belarussian State University and PhD in Laser Physics from Nice University, France. She also received postdoctoral trainings in cardiac electrophysiology from Duke University and SUNY Upstate Medical University, USA. Since 2008 she is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and her laboratory combines a wide spectrum of experimental research with complex numerical simulations. She is specifically interested in understanding the electrical activity of the whole heart, aiming to reveal mechanisms of complex cardiac rhythms leading to fibrillation, and subsequently, to sudden cardiac death. In addition, her laboratory develops novel approaches to help guiding ablation therapy during atrial fibrillation, and investigates the use of neuromodulation for treatment of metabolic and cardiac diseases. She is the author and coauthor of over 60 publications, over 100 conference presentations, has several patents, and serves on the editorial board of 5 journals.
Bing-Huei Chen, male, food scientist, received his Ph.D. degree in Food Science & Technology, Texas A & M University, USA in 1988. His postgraduate career includes working at Fu Jen University, Taipei, Taiwan as Associate Professor from 1988–1994, Professor from 1994–2004, Distinguished Chair Professor from 2003–present, Chair of Department of Nutrition and Food Science from 1994-2000, Director of Graduate Institute of Medicine from 2006–2009, and Dean of College of Human Ecology from 2012–2015. He specializes in Lipid Chemistry, Pigment Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Food Toxicology, Functional Food and Botanical Drug Development and Biological Activity Determination as well as Nanotechnology. Until now he has published 193 research articles in internationally renowned journals and authored 11 book chapters in edited books published by International Publishers. He has received numerous awards including the prestigious National Invention Gold Medal Award by Ministry of Economics, Taiwan in 2018 and was honored with Outstanding Research Scientist by Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan. He was also honored with International Outstanding Inventor of Biotechnology by Taiwan Outstanding Inventor Association/International Innovation and Invention Alliance Association in 2019 and Distinguished Professor by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China in 2015. Most importantly, Prof.Chen has developed a nano-product “Lycopene Chylomicron”, which has completed a phase III clinical trial in both Taiwan and USA in 2017 and demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of patients with prostatauxe syndrome. Expectedly, this product will become the first botanic drug in the world for treatment of patients with prostatauxe syndrome without side effect. More recently, the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM), a European organization has honored him with IAAM Scientist Award 2020 for his contribution to the advancement of science and technology. He also serves as Editor-in-Chiefof the journal “Recent Patents on Food, Nutrition and Agriculture” and Associate Editor of 2 journals “Journal of Food & Drug Analysis” and “Asian Science Bulletin”. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of 135 journals. Currently he is the President of Professors Association, Taiwan and was the Past President of AOAC Taiwan section from 2016-2018.
Ramesh Agarwal is a Professor of Mechanical engineering & Materials science Department at Washington University. Professor Agarwal was the Chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department at Wichita State University from 1994 to 1996 and the Executive Director of National Institute for Aviation Research from 1996 to 2001. From 1994 to 2001, he was also the Bloomfield Distinguished Professor at Wichita State University. From 1978 to 1994, Professor Agarwal worked in various scientific and managerial positions at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in St. Louis. He became the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow in 1990. From 1976 to 1978, Professor Agarwal worked as a NRC Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center and as a Principal Research Engineer at Rao and Associates in Palo Alto, California from 1975 to 1976. Over a period of 35 years, Professor Agarwal has worked in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and Electromagnetics, Computational Aeroacoustics, Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization, Rarefied Gas Dynamics and Hypersonic Flows, Bio-Fluid Dynamics, and Flow and Flight Control. He is the author and coauthor of over 500 publications and serves on the editorial board of more than 20 journals. Professor Agarwal is a Fellow of eighteen societies. He has given many plenary, keynote and invited lectures at various national and international conferences worldwide. Professor Agarwal continues to serve on many professional, government, and industrial advisory committees.
BYUNG-GYU KIM has received his BS degree from Pusan National University, Korea, in 1996 and an MS degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1998. In 2004, he received a PhD degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). In March 2004, he joined in the real-time multimedia research team at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea where he was a senior researcher. In ETRI, he developed so many real-time video signal processing algorithms and patents and received the Best Paper Award in 2007. From February 2009 to February 2016, he was an associate professor in the Division of Computer Science and Engineering at SunMoon University, Korea. In March 2016, he joined the Department of Information Technology (IT) Engineering at Sookmyung Women’s University, Korea where he is currently a full professor. In 2007, he served as an editorial board member of the International Journal of Soft Computing, Recent Patents on Signal Processing, Research Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Convergence Information Technology, and Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Oscar Casanova (Electronic Engineering, MBA and PhD in Biomedical Engineering), is Professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University and Carlos III University of Madrid of the Department of Electronic Technology. Researcher at the Center for Biomedical Technology of the Polytechnic University of Madrid in the area of Nanomedicine, in-vitro and in-vivo experimentation since 2014. Kinda Khalaf received her B.S. (Summa Cum Laude with Distinction) and M.S. (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from the Ohio State University. Her Ph.D., also from OSU, is in Biomechanics/Computational Biomechanics.
